I’m glad to say that I finally finished reading Gone Girl. The sad thing is it was a gift from 2014 Christmas and I barely finished it; bad, I know. This year I’m really going to try to read more. I already have four books lined up to keep me on track.
So did I like Gone Girl? Yes. It only took me long to read because, well, I just didn’t make enough reading time last year. But by all means, it was not boring. I’m anxious to finally see the movie.
It’s a nice, creepy, twisty thriller. The narrator switches between the two main characters – husband, Nick, and wife, Amy. I heard the movie was not like that and that back-and-forth, in-their-mind narrative is something I really liked about this book. You could really see both sides of the story.
I won’t give away the ending or the crazy twist that I kept avoiding to hear about when I was reading the book. I will say that the relationship between the married couple is very twisted. The book made me feel confused and scared that there are actual people like those characters out in the world. The author does a great job describing the characters as raw as they could be. Amy, although twisted, was my favorite character. She thought things through with so much fervor and really committed to her cause. I admired her determination, although crazy.
Overall, a great thriller to read. The back and forth narrative makes it a page turner. The ending was strange and almost not satisfying; but not satisfying in the sense that it wasn’t a typical “happy ending.” It was an uncomfortable ending that matched the rest of the plot so well.
One of the books I have lined up to read is another Gillian Flynn book; I’m excited to see if she could creep me out again.
