I was originally going to go with a black and white theme for Declan’s party; but since he is obsessed with Curious George, I couldn’t pass on it. Surprisingly enough, there aren’t many Curious George party decor items and everything was online. All I found were the plates and I didn’t want it to look too cookie-cutter either, so I made all the decorations.
I kept it simple and used a lot of items I already had. I bought yellow and brown napkins, plates and table cloths. I hung a classic happy birthday sign and just bought one number two balloon. I also bought a Curious George cake topper and drew a “Curious Declan Turns 2” chalkboard sign to solidify the theme.
I found great inspiration on Pinterest (duh) and made signs for the food that tied into some Curious George episodes. I also used banana chips in the popcorn mix and to top the cupcakes.
- Apples for the harvest
- Doughnuts for the doughnut episode
- Nuts for Jumpy Squirrel
- Sour worms for the worm race (these were a hit!)
- Fish crackers for the Quints
- Popcorn for the Old Bijou movie theater (Trader Joe’s kettle corn, banana chips, M&Ms & Cinnamon Toast Crunch)
- Veggies for Bill’s bunnies
The favors were super easy and tasty: a trail mix of cheerios, banana chips, Reeses Pieces and animal crackers. I also used that Curious George book as a guest book and had two stuffed animals as decor – Declan kept carrying the larger one attached to the balloon; the cutest.
